Betty Thompson Golf Classic on Thursday, May 23, 2019
Celebrate 27 years and over $1 million raised to support breast cancer and women's health programs in this community! Thanks to the tremendous support of golfers, businesses and individuals in Waterloo Region.
Throughout their lives, women face a particular range of health issues. One in nine Canadian women will develop breast cancer. 400 women die each year from cervical cancer. Ovarian cancer will strike between one and two percent of Canadian women. One in four women will be diagnosed with osteoporosis. And certain common mental health issues, like post-partum depression, are unique to women.
The Zonta Club of Kitchener-Waterloo’s annual Betty Thompson Golf Classic raises funds to support women’s health initiatives in Kitchener-Waterloo. In 2018 at our 26th tournament, all of the funds were donated to:
Grand River Hospital Foundation to support women recovering from breast cancer surgery who are at risk for, or developed, lymphedema;
St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation towards the purchase of a Rotoblader, which is used in angioplasty procedures to widen a narrowing or blockage in a coronary artery;
University of Waterloo Living-Fit program, a small group exercise and behaviour-change program for women who are currently undergoing hormonal treatment for breast cancer;
HopeSpring for the purchase of wigs and mastectomy camisoles that women with cancer receive free of charge; and
KW Counselling Services to support the provision of online counselling to women who might not be able to visit their offices.
