Welcome to the Zonta Club of Kitchener-Waterloo!

We are an enthusiastic group of women from Waterloo Region fundraising together to empower women & girls locally and globally.

Zonta KW was chartered in 1978 and has been thriving for over 40 years!  We are a member of Zonta International (ZI), which was established in 1919 in Buffalo New York.   ZI is comprised of more than 1133 Clubs in 63 countries and has more than 28,000 members (both women & men).

Zonta envisions a world in which women’s rights are recognized as human rights and every woman is able to achieve her full potential. In such a world, women have access to all resources and are represented in decision making positions on an equal basis with men. In such a world, no woman lives in fear of violence.

Zonta’s story is one of empowerment and progressive change.

How do we Empower Women & Girls in Waterloo Region?

  • Fundraising: we have raised over $1.9 million dollars for local charitable and not-for-profit organizations whose programs support women’s health, education and well-being.

  • Scholarships:  young women are recognized and supported through the Young Women in Public Affairs Award and the JM Klausman Women in Business Scholarship

  • Recognition:   women in our community are recognized through our annual Women of Achievement Award.

  • Advocacy:  we participate in events focussing on gender equality and ending violence against women.  We also present the Zonta Film Festival which celebrates female filmmakers. Their stories inspire action and advocacy on a wide variety of subjects.

How do we Empower and Support Women & Girls Globally?

  • Birthing Kits: twice a year we organize volunteers to create birthing kits. One small package improves health outcomes for Mom, baby & birth attendant. Kits are shipped around the world with the help of partners such as World Vision. To date, our club has sent 23,000 kits worldwide.

  • Fundraising:  Funds raised each year around International Women’s Day are directed to the Zonta Foundation for Women which carries out global education and service projects.
