Welcome to the Zonta Club of Kitchener-Waterloo!
We are an enthusiastic group of women from Waterloo Region fundraising and advocating to build a better world for women and girls in Waterloo Region and around the world.
Zonta KW was founded in 1978 and has been thriving for almost 50 years! We are a member of Zonta International (ZI), a global organization that started in Buffalo New York in 1919. ZI is comprised of over 26,000 members forming 1102 Clubs in 62 countries.
Zonta envisions a world in which women’s rights are recognized as human rights and every woman is able to achieve her full potential. In such a world, women have access to all resources and are represented in decision making positions on an equal basis with men. In such a world, no woman lives in fear of violence.
Zonta’s story is one of empowerment, perseverance and progressive change.
How do we Build a Better World for Women & Girls in Waterloo Region?
FUNDRAISING: we have raised over $1.9 million dollars for local charitable and not-for-profit organizations whose programs support women’s health, education and well-being.
ADVOCACY: The 16 Days of Activism to End Violence Against Women is observed internationally that and brings awareness to the heartbreaking level of violence perpetrated against women and girls across the globe. From November 26-Dec 10th, we host & participate in events to raise awareness about this issue.
We also hold an event every year around International Women's Day (March 8) to celebrate progress made so far and highlight areas where more action is still needed.
AWARDS: The Lynn Roden Bursary is awarded annually to a 2nd year nursing student attending Conestoga College.
How do we Build a Better World for Women & Girls Globally?
BIRTHING KITS: twice a year we organize volunteers to create birthing kits. One small package improves health outcomes for Mom, baby & birth attendant. Kits are shipped around the world with the help of partners such as World Vision. To date, our club has sent 23,000 kits worldwide!
Community members are welcome to join us for this fun and inspiring activity. Contact our club for more information and dates.
FUNDRAISING: Each year a portion of money raised at our events is directed to the (ZI) Zonta Foundation for Women which carries out global education and service projects.
